Best Time to Visit Rajasthan: A Season-by-Season Guide

If you ask five different travelers when to visit Rajasthan, you’ll likely get five different answers — and all of them can be right, depending on what you’re actually planning to do. Rajasthan’s desert climate produces sharp seasonal extremes, and the "best" time genuinely depends on your itinerary.

This is peak season for good reason. Daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable 20-28°C range across most of the state, ideal for fort-climbing, desert safaris and long walking days in Jaipur or Udaipur. The trade-off: desert-city nights in Jaisalmer and Bikaner can drop close to freezing in December and January, so pack real layers even though you won’t need them at midday.

Summer (April to June): Hot, except in one place

Summer in the desert districts is genuinely intense, regularly crossing 45°C. The one exception is Mount Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station, which stays noticeably cooler and is worth building a trip around specifically in this window if your dates are fixed.

Monsoon (July to September): The underrated middle ground

Monsoon brings welcome relief and a genuinely different, greener Rajasthan — especially around Udaipur and Mount Abu, where the lakes fill and the hills turn lush. Rural desert-district roads can occasionally be affected by heavy showers, so this window suits city-and-lake itineraries better than deep desert circuits.

If your dates are flexible

  • Time your trip around the Pushkar Camel Fair (Oct/Nov) for a genuinely unique cultural event.
  • Visit Jaipur during Teej or Gangaur for festival colour without the absolute peak-season crowds.
  • Choose November or February for the best balance of comfortable weather and lighter crowds than the December-January peak.

Planning around the seasons

If your dates fall in the cooler months, our Royal Rajasthan Tour covers five cities in ten days, and the shorter Desert Safari Tour pairs Jodhpur with a night in the dunes near Jaisalmer. If you are travelling from Jodhpur or want a trip that starts there, see our Rajasthan tour packages from Jodhpur, or plan your trip with us and we will suggest what fits your dates.
