Delhi Chandni Chowk Photography Tour

Overview

When the Mughal Emperor Shahjehan decided to relocate the Mughal capital from Agra to Delhi, he commissioned a spanking new, well planned city opposite the historic Lal Qila, where his own palace was located. Shahjehanabad the Mughal’s imperial capital was built in 1648, along the lines of elegant Persian city of Isfahan. On 9th March, 1739 Nadir Shah defeated Mohammad Shah at Panipat, entered Delhi, massacred the inhabitants and took over almost the entire wealth of Shahjehanabad, accumulated by the Mughals in India. The booty included the fabulous Peacock Throne and priceless stones such as Koh-i-Nur and Darya-i-Nur. Till the time the British moved the capital of their Indian Empire from Calcutta to Delhi, Shahjehanabadwas a target for many invaders
