The olden streets of Shahjehanabad have many a secret; and one of them is their offerings of delicious fare for brunch sold from unassuming little shops and hole-in-the wall outlets; and you never know, you may chance upon another dish, still a secret known only to the local community. Actually that’s how it all started out…when Dilliwallahs from other parts of the city discovered Old Delhi’s obsession with food….And then the tourists found them…And the rest they say is history!

This is a specially curated vegetarian culinary tour for those visitors who have limited time in hand, but still want to explore, the food, history, and culture of Old Delhi

What you will experience

We will visit Old Delhi’s renowned Gurudwara, a Sikh place of worship where you will learn about the tenets of Sikhism and the importance of the community kitchen to this faith.

We will wander down to the centuries-old Gali Paranthewali to relish some scrumptious Paranthas-a North Indian breakfast staple. This will be followed by a quick stroll across vibrant and colorful streets Kinari Bazar or the Wedding Market. Here we will take you to see the Nau Garah which refers to the nine beautiful houses in this neighbourhood which were built in the 18th century. There is also a Jain Temple at the end of this lane. Our next stop is the 17th-century street market, traditionally lined by gold and silver jewellery shops since Mughal times. At a 150-year-old eatery you will try Samosa and the Indian version of Pretzel called Jalebi.

Hopping on to tuk tuks we get a ride to Asia’s biggest spice market. Here you will witness the mind-boggling variety of both local and exotic spices sold from the cheek-by-jowl shops crowding this market. A small chai break will rejuvenate us, before we move on to the nearby flower market with its enticing scents an colours. Then it’s time to indulge our palates at the historic food joints of Chandni Chowk where we will try traditional Indian dishes like Chole-Bhature, Lassi etc. We end the tour with some traditional Indian sweets from one of the oldest shops in the locality that had been around for over a century.
